It was a return to our alma mater, UC San Diego, with Mike and Melanie. It was a nostalgic afternoon for all of us as we took their engagement photos around campus. We made sure we included the iconic locations including the library walk, Geisel Libray, UCSD price center, eucalyptus trees, sun god and the Revelle stonehenge! Plus I photographed my first plank…and during an engagement session!

We shot these engagement photos at Ocean Beach around the pier area. Luckily, the sun showed up and peaked through the clouds giving us some warm sunlight. Matt and Krystle were great and we had a great time spending the afternoon with them. You guys were naturals!
Strobist: We used a 2 light set up for most of the photos. One speedlite in a Lastolite softbox and the other on a stand fitted with a snoot. All speedlites trigged by the PW mini/flex combo.

FYI: When photographing families with kids, bubbles are a photographer’s best friend! We usually have our bag of treats, bubbles and toys to entertain kids while photographing them, but since moving, we’re still trying to find stuff from out boxes. Luckily, Joanne and Tony had some of those magic bubbles. It was an overcast day but we made it happen with a few flashes and some bubbles : ) Please check out their family photos taken at San Diego’s Balboa Park. We had a great time. We postponed the Frasca family photos because of some uncertainty in San Diego weather. Luckily, postponing was worth it because we had an absolutely gorgeous day for their photos. It was our first time shooting at the Carlsbad flower fields with the Frascas, Jeremy, Crystal and little Jade. We all had a great time and it was smiles for all of us all day! The bonus was that we ended the day with a few shots as the sun set at Carlsbad State Beach.

We were there for their maternity photos, now for their engagement session and later this year for their wedding. 5byseven loves making long-lasting bonds with our families. We took Myleen and Carlo’s photos next to the San Diego Convention Center, then headed to the new pedestrian bridge connecting Petco to the Bay, then ended it with some classic diner photos. Enjoy!
